Custom Metal Shields

For low volume or high volume quantities of custom metal shielding, Border Precision’s in house broad product knowledge based Design and Technical support team can provide fast turnaround solutions by using the latest Pro Engineer CAD/CAM packages. Various metals, thicknesses, and plated finishes can be provided to ensure optimum EMC performance in suppressing spurious RFI signals.

Metals can be selected from a range of thicknesses, and from a variety of un-plated or pre-plated options. Alternatively, parts can have post-plated protective finishes applied after manufacture where use to highest electronic specifications requires the optimum electro-chemical galvanic compatibility. Post plated parts also allows laser cutting of blanks to be used as the post plating operations can hide laser marks.

Prototypes, pilot builds, or low volume quantity production requirements Border Precision provides Custom Metal Shielding parts are cost effectively produced using our versatile in house Chemical Etching facilities, allowing CAD data to be used to build up parts quickly, enabling project designs to be approved prior to any high investment hard tooling being commissioned. Any required changes can be easily incorporated - at minimal costs.

For higher volume quantities, or on larger projects, dedicated hard tooling stamping & forming suites are designed and produced using Border Precision’s in house fully equipped tool making facilities, ensuring maximum control of the manufacture of all tooling and parts to the highest quality levels.

Custom stamped shields are produced in metals of your choice, at Border Precision we welcome the opportunity to assist you selecting the best metal for each of your applications and in designing your products. Packaging can be dependent on the size and shape of the parts; usually parts are individually wrapped and packed, or packaged to your stipulated requirements.

Applications

Custom stamped shielded parts are used when more conventional shielding options just don’t provide the correct solution, making it necessary for bespoke solutions to meet specific design requirements. Like other forms of shielding they help create a Faraday cage to control spurious signals. The spurious signals can affect the performance of other components nearby, causing circuits to work erratically, or even fail.

As clock speeds of processors and other component speeds increase the likelihood of requiring custom stamped shields is likely to increase too. Many of these parts regularly incorporate very small holes to allow airflow around enclosures to assist in thermal dissipation away from sensitive components – without affecting shielding effectiveness of the part.
